HOW WE DO COUNSELING

Perhaps one of the most common misconceptions about counseling is that involves aimlessly talking about problems without any real direction or resolution.  The truth is good therapy is quite structured and even strategic.

We take a goals oriented approach to counseling which involves a thorough initial assessment to understand the unique nature of our clients situation.  From there we set clear objectives and craft a plan that puts accountability on both the client and the counselor.  Quality counseling creates an empathetic and safe environment while working within a structure and plan that gets the job done.

STEP 1:ASSESSMENT

  • One to Two Sessions

  • Listen to and Understand Your Story

  • Provide an Explanation of the Issues

While Students and Interns charge a much lower rate, lower cost doesn't mean lower value.  In order to ensure the value and effectiveness of therapy, we have a more experienced counselor perform the most critical steps.  Consider these critical steps like designing the blue prints of a building.  An experienced counselor functions like the architect and designs the work, while the student or intern performs the essential work under their direction.

The following is a simple structure that guides our approach to counseling.  Every client's case is unique and we usually tailor the approach according to our clients needs.  But it's important that our clients understand the basic strategy behind our work as it's easy for clients to start feeling lost and uncertain of where the therapy is going.
